Dendrobium carronii

I received this one from Andy's Orchids in October of 2009, and this is the second time it has bloomed since then.  An Australian native, I grow this one warm, and in high light.  Watered and fertilized during the summer, and reduced watering in the winter.  A nice miniature Dendrobium.

Catasetum sangineum

One of the rewarding Catasetum Alliance plants I have.  This was in flower in January, and the third spike this season.  A particularly dark version of sangineum, and one of my favorites. I grow this plant, as I do all my Catasetums.  During the growth phase, I have them in almost full sun during the day, potted in spaghnum moss, in a kind of net pot.  Heavily watered and fertilized during the growing season.

Happy New Year

I thought I'd start out the new year by starting a blog.  First a little about myself.  I've been growing orchids for almost 15 years now, and really started into growing Hoyas about 3 years ago.  I've found that these two groups of plants are perfect companions.

I'm lucky enough to live where the majority of my plants can stay outside year round.  Those that require a warmer winter than mother nature provides here, do come inside where they winter under lights.

My favorite types of orchids are Dendrobiums, Bulbophyllums and Catasetums, although I do have a variety of other types of orchids right now also.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll get my pictures organized and posted up also.
